Volunteer in Costa Rica and learn Spanish
Give your time and effort to a community project in Costa Rica and in return you can learn a new language on your gap year, with the new volunteering opportunity from GoEco, which can last for up to two months.
Starting with a week of Spanish Immersion lessons, you will also learn local skills such as Costa Rican cooking and Salsa dancing. Once your lingo is up to scratch, you can choose one of three volunteer paths: in a school, a medical facility, or a community centre.
Duties will include helping out in schools/after school programs, working on health initiatives in medical facilities (for those who qualify) or creating your own initiative.
Past volunteers have organized sports leagues, built organic gardens for local soup-kitchens, repaired and constructed community sites, and even designed small businesses that support local women’s financial independence.
Full details of the project are on the GoEco website, but the basic cost for eight weeks is $1,810 (£1,110), including all meals and training, but exclusive of international flights.
