Amazing onshore activities at sailing schools in Greece

Whether you're planning to take a gap year, a career break or just an extended holiday, Greece can be a fascinating place to visit. If you're interested in exploring the country, why not consider taking a yacht charter in Greece? By doing so, you'll be able to enjoy the exhilarating adventure of being at sea, as well as the myriad attractions available on land.

Staying at the beach club in Vounaki, which is situated at the foot of the Arkanika Mountains, you will find there are just as many amazing things to do on land as there are at sea.

So, this means you can combine your time spent honing your seafaring skills at the sailing school in Greece with exploring the country's exciting landscape. There are plenty of ways to do this, from biking through rugged mountains to hiking along the coast - so you're bound to find something that fits in with your personality.

While you're out and about, you can explore some incredible historical sites, but you'll find there's just as much to do at the club itself. Swimming, tennis and various other sports are among the fun land-based activities you can take part in.

Of course, whatever you choose to do, you will be able to soak up the traditional Greek atmosphere, chat to friendly people and enjoy some great food and drink - all in the beautiful setting of the spectacular Ionian Sea.

So, when you're not out on the water, what are some of the best things to do here?

Simply exploring the amazing terrain is a must - particularly if you are eager to soak up as much local culture as possible. If you're into adventure sports, why not take advantage of the free use of mountain bikes? This way, you can cover a wide area and tackle some exhilarating, challenging trails. You can either do so independently or go on a guided trip to have the benefit of an expert's knowledge and advice.

Of course, you need not head off on particularly challenging trails to enjoy a good day's cycling. Instead, you could opt for a more leisurely route along the coast and perhaps finish up with a refreshing swim, or a drink in a local taverna.

Whichever takes you fancy, don't forget you can always find out about lesser-known places to go or trails to follow from your tour operator's sports co-ordinator.

Hiking is another great way to explore the local area and get under the skin of the country. As with cycling, there are plenty of routes you can take and these span leisurely trips to trails that will really put your stamina to the test.

Whether you decide to cycle, walk or do a little of both, you will find that there are some fascinating sites to discover while you do so. For example, you might like to visit the St Dimitrios Monastery, which dates back to the 16th century. Situated in the foothills of the Acarnanian Mountains, this is easiest reached by bike.

Alternatively, you could take a trip to the ancient site of Sterna, or to the equally historical city of Kekropoula.

Spending a little time at the club itself is also well worth doing. An ideal place to relax, you can still try your hand at plenty of activities. For example, why not go swimming in the adults-only pool, learn to play volleyball or hone your tennis skills?

Indeed, if you're a keen player, you could be particularly interested in making use of the tennis courts here. The sports co-ordinator will occasionally run clinics, which can help you improve your game, while regular tournaments are arranged - perfect for those with a competitive streak.

As you can see, there is plenty to pack into your time onshore during a bareboat charter in Greece. However, when you choose to stay at the beach club, you will also find there are far more water sports you can try than sailing alone.

In addition to receiving sailing tuition, you can have a go at a variety of other activities, including wakeboarding, windsurfing and waterskiing.

Meanwhile, it's well worth having a go at diving before you bid Greece farewell. By doing so, you can discover some truly spectacular marine life - something that's sure to become a fantastic memory of your time away.
