Prepare for worldwide expeditions in the Lake District

Friday, 25 February 2011 8:59 AM

If you’re planning on taking on some of the most challenging environments on earth in your adventurous gap year, then get some practice in closer to home and pick up expert tips along the way, with the new expedition from Fieldskills.

This international company is better known for its adventure training and for providing rigging support to camera crews filming in the jungles of Borneo, but you can benefit from the company’s expertise on a training weekend in the Lake District.

This Cumbrian expedition is off the beaten track, away from the usual tourist traps, and travellers will learn how to wild camp in hammocks, perfect their navigation skills, deal with emergency scenarios, and quiz highly experienced expedition staff.

Dominic Hall, UK director of Fieldskills, said: "We work with groups all over the world but we thought it was about time we brought some of these skills to exploring the amazing places on our doorstep like the Lakes.”

The cost of the Fieldskills training weekend is £150 and places are available on weekends in May (20-22) and September (16-18).
