Wednesday, 23 February 2011 12:08 PM

If you’re looking for a bit of light-hearted fun in the snow this spring, then Sierra-at-Tahoe’s new Blizzard Mountain area is just the ticket. From snowtubing to snowshoeing, there’s plenty of offer at this Californian resort to make for a fun day off from skiing.

Blizzard Mountain features a rope tow lane for snowtubers, meaning you can easily get back to the top of the hill, ready for another slide down the slope. With Blizzard Mountain area passes available for just $10 (£6) and tube hire from $30 (£18) this is an affordable alternative to a day on the slopes.

Other options include snowshoeing across the mountains on three miles of marked trails that wind through the Eldorado National Forest. Snowshoe hire starts at $24 (£15) per day.

Visitors can also relax in the evenings by the warmth of Blizzard Mountain’s fire pits, which are perfect for toasting marshmallows on and making s’mores.

Furthermore, Sierra-at-Tahoe offers 320 acres of back-country terrain for serious skiers and snowboarders and 100 acres of beginner slopes, so there’s something on offer for every ability level.
