Monday, 17 January 2011 12:25 PM

Gap year travellers exploring the wintery wilderness of Canada’s Yukon Territory this winter are advised not to miss out on The Fulda Extreme Arctic Winter Adventure, a five-day festival of the best winter sports Canada has to offer.

The events kick off today (January 17) with a dogsledding race in Whitehorse, before the evening sees an extreme cooking event with celebrity chef Steffen Henssler.

Later in the week teams from Canada, Germany, Austria and Switzerland will compete in various competitions, including Snowmobile racing, snowshoe running and even a half marathon into the Arctic circle.

The Fulda Challenge has been running for 11 years now, and the schedule of events remains as exciting as ever, with a Helicopter drop ski event taking place in Dawson City on Wednesday (January 19).

The climax of the festival will be the awards ceremony on Saturday (January 22) in the Arctic town of Inuvik. For more information about this Yukon winter sports festival, visit: www.touryukon.com
