Get in the festive mood at Okemo ski resort

Tuesday, 21 December 2010 5:30 PM

The Vermont ski resort of Okemo is kicking off its holiday schedule on Thursday, to give gap year travellers a healthy dose of Christmas spirit. Whether you’re spending the season on the East Coast or just passing through, there’s plenty on offer to get you feeling festive.

Santa will be arriving at the resort on December 23 for the younger guests, while Boxing Day will see a torchlight parade to the Okemo Clock Tower, followed by a fireworks display at 7.30pm. After the fireworks there will be a torchlight ski parade across the Open Slope trail.

Get the best view of the fireworks on a Snowshoe tour. Meet up at 6pm for this woodland trek, which costs $15 (£10) for rental and a guided tour.

December 27 is Shakin’ Skate Night at nearby Jackson Gore Ice House. Enjoy the music from 6pm to 9pm, from just $17 (£11) including ice skate rental and admission.

Top off the holiday season with an exciting range of New Year’s Activities, including snowtubing, fireworks and a ride on the mountainside roller coaster. Adult admission costs $39 (£25).
