Canadian Rockies nearly ready for new season

Wednesday, 27 October 2010 4:03 PM

Preparations are continuing apace across the country, with 20cm of snow already on the pistes at Fernie and snowmaking well underway at Nakiska Ski Resort in advance of the early opening on November 6.

Nakiska boasts Alberta's largest snowmaking system and efforts to develop on-mountain snow coverage are in full force. From November 6 the resort will be open to weekend visitors, with a full opening on December 4.

Fernie Alpine Resort is expecting 29ft of snowfall this year thanks to the predicted La Niña weather cycle for the Pacific Northwest. Snow is already falling as low as the resort’s base and everything is falling into place for a December 4 opening.

Book your stay at either of these resorts before the end of November and save 33 per cent on a ski and accommodation package.
