Monday, 5 December 2011 11:44 AM

Each week at mapthegap.co.uk, we’ve been focusing on a different gap year organisation, giving you the info to make the decision of choosing just that little bit easier. This week we continue by looking at Global Vision International.

Who are they? Global Vision International provides support and services to international charities, non-profit organisations and governmental agencies through volunteering opportunities, internships, training and funding. The organisation offer safe and responsible travel experiences.

Types of gap years they offer... GVI offer expedition placements, where volunteers can choose an expedition under the sea, in the rainforest, in the African savannah, in local communities, with wildlife, or in some of the most hostile and remote regions on the planet.

They also offer volunteer projects which covers conservation, teaching, construction and community, as well as volunteering holidays, family volunteering trips, internships, fundraising events and group travel experiences.

Choose anything, from a PADI Divemaster training and conservation course in Mexico, and an Ecuadorian rainforest expedition, to researching wildlife in South Africa and teaching in Thailand.

Countries... GVI run programs in over 40 different countries and have a wide variety to choose from, including seven different countries in Africa, seven countries in Asia and eight countries in Central and South America, as well as in Europe and Australasia. If you have your heart set on a certain country you can even choose from a range of different projects within that country.

Finance and price... Projects cost from around £800 for two weeks and most include accommodation and food as well as 24-hour in country support. Flights, visas and insurance are not included.

Why should I choose GVI? Choose GVI if you want to make sure you are going on an ethically responsible volunteering project that is going to make a difference and you want to ensure your money is going to the right place. With GVI 70 per cent of volunteer contributions are spent in the field. Also choose GVI if you want 24-hour in country support and a wide range of destinations and programs to choose from.
