Find your nearest beach anywhere in Europe

Tuesday, 11 January 2011 12:45 PM

Sun worshippers on a European tour can track down their nearest beach in seconds, thanks to the new iPhone app from online travel agent On the Beach. The Beach Locator can point you in the direction of the nearest sandy haven, with more than 1,000 Continental spots listed.

The free app uses GPS to calculate your current location and pinpoint the nearest beach, as well as give up to date wave information for surfing fans. You can also check the sand type if sunbathing is more up your street.

Beach Locator can suggest ideal beaches for couples and even nudists, or recommend hotspots for watersports, such as snorkelling.

Destinations covered so far include Cyprus, Egypt, Greece, Portugal, Turkey, Spain and the Canary and Balearic Islands.

The Beach Locator app is available now for free from the iTunes app Store and a version for Google Android phones should be released in time for the summer. For more information, visit: www.onthebeach.co.uk/mobile
