Lonely Planet launches Android app sale

Monday, 20 December 2010 5:49 PM

Get the ultimate guide to your gap year destination on your Google Android phone this December for just $0.99 (£0.64) with the Compass City Guide app sale from Lonely Planet. Hi-tech travellers can pick up augmented reality guides to 25 worldwide cities for this low price until Christmas Day.

The Compass City Guide includes GPS-enabled maps and location-based information for hundreds of points-of-interest for every city. The range includes popular gap year destinations such as Bangkok, Singapore, Vancouver and Beijing.

Alternatively, if you’re heading on a European tour, then you can get the definitive guide to Amsterdam, Barcelona, Paris, Prague or Rome.

Usually priced at $4.99 (£3.20) each, the app offers augmented reality features, which allow users to look through the phone’s camera and see the best nearby sights, restaurants, bars and accommodation.

The guides also enable travellers to use all content offline (with the exception of the maps), meaning there are no roaming fees. The guides will be available for just $0.99 (£0.64) on the Android Market until December 25.
