Global SIM card to make calls cheaper

Wednesday, 11 April 2012 2:26 PM

It’s a problem backpackers face all the time – how do you phone home when you’re travelling, without paying over the odds in long distance costs?

A new global SIM, which is valid in over 100 countries worldwide, is hoping to solve that problem and save backpackers up to 90 per cent on global calls.

The Toggle SIM comes with a permanent UK number – so that backpackers can receive calls free of charge from the UK when they travel. On top of that, the SIM also allows travellers to choose a different ‘local’ number so that they can use special local rates wherever they are in the world.

Tariffs for the toggle local number network include calls at 15p a minute, SMS at 9p per message and internet browsing for 15p per mb.

To obtain a local number for selected countries users simply need to register the destinations that they plan to visit on the official Toggle website and they will automatically receive a local number for the duration of their stay.

The allocated local numbers are valid for 30 days, but if backpackers are planning on staying somewhere longer during their year out, then they can purchase the number for a small fee or just request another local number for the same country for free.

Toggle mobile was awarded winner of the 'Innovative Service' category at the prestigious Mobile News Awards 2012.
