Friday, 21 January 2011 12:11 PM

Gap year travellers can get even more out of their Canadian adventure with the low cost sale from VIA Rail Canada. Starting today, long-distance train tickets are available for 50 per cent off, including sleeper car journeys.

This means you can explore the world’s second largest country for less, including cross-country journeys from Toronto to Vancouver for $394 (£250), offering great views of the snowy outback of Saskatchewan and Alberta as you speed past.

Alternatively choose the Montreal to Halifax route for just $115 (£72), allowing you to discover the Atlantic coast of Nova Scotia.

Passengers can choose any departure date from January 24 to May 31, but all tickets must be booked before Tuesday (January 25) to get the half price reduction.

Cash-conscious travellers can visit the VIA Rail Canada website and browse through the 503 domestic rail routes on offer in this half price sale.
