China travel guide updated and revised by Lonely Planet

Tuesday, 3 May 2011 5:09 PM

Backpackers heading for a far-eastern adventure will be pleased to hear that Lonely Planet’s 12th edition China travel guide is out this month.

Describing the vast country as a ‘land of contradictions,’ the guide was written by 11 authors and features maps and information on temples and monasteries, and good places to eat locally on a variety of budgets.

The guide features an easy-to-use layout, and has redesigned maps and a new planning section covering time, season, interest and region.

Co-ordinating author of the guide, Damian Harper, said: “[China is] antique, yet up-to-the-minute, familiar yet unrecognisable, outwardly urban but quintessentially rural, conservative yet path-breaking, space-age but old-fashioned, China is a land of mesmerising and eye-opening contradictions.'
