Head to Iceland for festival, or watch online

Wednesday, 20 April 2011 10:57 AM

Europe is the place to be this summer for innovative music festivals at half the price of expensive UK weekenders. If it's too late to adjust your travel plans to attend this weekend's Aldrei fór ég suðu in Iceland, you can watch online.

The atmospheric festival takes place on Iceland's West fjords, among the mountains, and mixes local acts with big Icelandic names. The event is run on a volunteer basis by Ísafjörður residents.

Entrance to all events is free but if you can't make it you can catch a live online stream on www.inspiredbyiceland.com.

Lonely Planet named Aldrei fór ég suður as one of the three most interesting happenings around the world in April in its Best of Travel 2011 round up.

The title of the festival is a wry reference to those musicians who never went “south” to Reykjavík to seek fame and fortune, but stayed at home and continued to make music there with amazing results.

The festival starts on Friday April 22 at 8pm.
