Wellington makes the grade for Lonely Planet

Wednesday, 10 November 2010 5:22 PM

Wellington has made it onto Lonely Planet’s Top Ten Cities for 2011 guide. The New Zealand city joins Tangiers in Morocco, Tel Aviv in Isreal, and Delhi in India on the Best in Travel 2011 list.

Ranked in fourth place, Wellington is described by the guide as “Cool with a capital C, crammed with more bars, cafes and restaurants per capita than New York” and “the best little capital in the world”.

The top ten list also includes established regulars, such as New York and Valencia, but there are a few obscure treats too, such as Iquitos in Peru and Chiang Mai in Thailand.

The guide also recommends Brazil, Tanzania, Syria and Japan in the Top 10 Countries to visit in 2011, while The Great Barrier Reef and Patagonia make it into the Top 10 Regions to see next year.

Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2011 is available to buy now for £9.99, and would make a perfect Christmas present to a travel mad relative. For more information, visit: www.lonelyplanet.com
